Kaya FC-Iloilo proved unrelenting as they crushed Mendiola FC 1991, 9-1, in Sunday’s third match in the Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Shuto Komaki (9’, 71’) and Robert Lopez Mendy (18’, 28’) combined for four goals as the defending champions remained in first place with 22 points with only five matches left in the season.

Meanwhile, Mendiola remained in 10th place with seven points after nine matches.

Eric Esso (16’), Jhan Melliza (50’), Kaishu Yamazaki (54’), Jovin Bedic (75’), and an own goal for Mendiola’s Kieth Edulan completed the Kaya scoreline pulled off in the absence of league topscorer Jarvey Gayoso and midfielder Mark Swainston who were called up by the national team in the recent FIFA window.

Mendiola scored a spectacular consolation goal courtesy of Hamed Hajimahdi who curled home a free kick from 30 yards in the 65th minute.
