Kaya FC-Iloilo sealed a statement 12-0 victory over DB Garelli United to cap Matchday 3 of league action Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Their winning margin is tied with the second highest winning margin in league history, when United City FC (then known as Ceres-Negros FC) defeated Philippine Air Force, 12-0.
Kaya, coming off their second AFC Champions League stint, were on full throttle from the get-go. Kaishu Yamazaki (4’), Shuto Komaki (6’) and Jarvey Gayoso (8’) gave the defending Philippines Football League and reigning Copa Paulino Alcantara Champions an early 3-nil lead,.
The Japanese tandem of Yamazaki and Kamaki each picked up a brace with goals in the 22nd and 28th minute, respectively. Meanwhile, Joules Koumoin looked to give Garelli a much needed spark as he forced goalkeeper Kenry Balobo to come up with a save.
Their efforts were not enough as Iloilo picked up a penalty which Jan Melliza calmly buried in the 38th minute to take a 6-nil lead at halftime.
Garelli – who are playing in their maiden PFL campaign – looked to get back on track behind the efforts of Koumoin and Jangobah Johnson on the attack, but Ken Balobo proved to be unfazed.
Former UAAP players Jarvey Gayoso (67’) and Melliza (68’) picked up their second goals of the match as Robert Lopez Mendy joined the party off the bench with two goals (64’ and 78’) in 14 minutes.
Gayoso eventually sealed top scorer and Man of the Match Honors after scoring in the 86th minute and in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.
