Patrick Grogg bagged a brace and assisted on another goal as newcomer One Taguig FC continued its amazing run with a pulsating 3-3 draw against Stallion Laguna last Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Both teams picked up a point each in a thrilling duel which saw them battle tooth and nail and even swap the lead at different parts of the match.
On the back of a goalless draw with Kaya last week, One Taguig was brimming with optimistic they can also take down one of the league’s top teams in Stallion.
The Laguna side, on the other hand, was entering the match in fine form, having scored 31 goals without reply in their first four games.
But Grogg immediately made his presence felt as he fired a first time finish on the left in the fourth minute after some terrific work from Stephan Schrock and Tsukasa Shimomura.
Stallion equalized in the 22nd minute with Kenneth Pryde slotting the ball home from close range after Finn McDaniel’s fine delivery into the area. McDaniel scored his tournament-leading 11th goal of the season from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.
Eight minutes after the restart, it was Grogg who was on the scoresheet once again as the fleet footed winger equalized with a shot to the far post after Arnel Amita’s weighted pass.
Taguig wrested back the lead in the 65th minute with Grogg providing the assist to Naoto Hiraishi who converted in the near post.
Stallion leveled things once more five minutes later as substitute Junior Sam slotted the ball from close range after he was found by Christian Ivanovski in the box.
There was one final twist in the encounter as One Taguig conceded a penalty in the 80th minute. McDaniel fired straight at Kammeraad this time, and his second effort hit the crossbar, before Jesus Salazar’s header was blocked by Kammeraad again.
