Maharlika Taguig FC ended a three-match losing slump after overwhelming Philippine Air Force FC with a 4-2 win in the final Sunday fixture at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Entering the match, conceding 20 goals in the last two games, Maharlika was determined to disrupt the trend against an Air Force side that broke through with a 2-1 win over Tuloy FC last week.
After wasting a series of chances in the first 45 minutes, Maharlika finally broke through in first half stoppage time when Raymond Abo fired home from a tight angle after a wonderful ball from Nigerian Oluwatosin Otuyemi.
The win snapped Maharlika’s lopsided losing streak where they conceded a total of 20 goals in their last two outings against defending champions Kaya FC-Iloilo and Dynamic Herb Cebu FC.
It took Maharlika until first half stoppage time to open the scoring. Raymond Abo was found free by with the through ball before firing from a tight angle.
MJ Canicosa Libre doubled Maharlika’s lead two minutes in to the second half. Otuyemi was again the provider as he fed Canicosa with another inviting ball to the box.
Junior Mailly added a third for Maharlika with an audacious chip after Zaldy Abraham was caught off his line. This time, it was Libre who provided the pass for Junior to finish.
Gael Basana added a fourth goal for Maharlika, only for the Airmen to pull a couple of goals back near the end.
Jan Delariarte’s rocket of a strike from outside the box made it 4-1, before substitute Angelo Obero pegged the final score with a composed finish.
