The Philippines Football League is the country’s national and professional football competition competed by professional football clubs from across the country.
Launched in 2017, the PFL is competed by clubs licensed by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). The winners of the competition earn a berth to the AFC Champions League (Preliminary qualification in 2018, 2019, and 2020, Group Stage beginning 2021) and the AFC Cup.
An original cast of eight (8) professional clubs competed in the opening season in 2017 and was won by Ceres-Negros FC. in 2018, the number of clubs was reduced to six (6). Again, Ceres-Negros FC won the title.
The most recent season (2019), the number of licensed clubs was increased to seven (7). Ceres-Negros FC claimed their third league title.
Now in its fourth season, the league has partnered with Qatar Airways in spearheading the football development in the country.
