Davao Aguilas-UMak FC collected their third straight win in Group C after defeating Philippine Army FC in a rain-drenched tie last Saturday 29 July 2023 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Serge Kaole, who earned Man of the Match plaudits, scored a brace in the 18th and 29th minutes to put Davao 2-0 up in the first 30 minutes of the match.
Jovanie Simpron reduced the deficit off a counter attack in the 37th minute to go into the half a goal behind.
Dimitri Limbo and Yannick Tuason combined once more to pad Davao’s lead before Simpron scored from the spot in the 62nd minute to put Davao 4-2 up.
The match was delayed to intense rain with less than 10 minutes to go, and upon resumption Army pulled another goal back in the dying minutes to finish it at 4-3.
Saturday’s second match saw Tuloy FC return to winning ways after dispatching Adamson University, 3-0.
John Lloyd Jalique broke the deadlock in the third minute and was followed up by Harry Nuñez’ strike ten minutes later. Substitute James Demate added a third goal in the 83rd minute to put Tuloy in second place in Group C with six points.
The lone Monday match saw Philippine Air Force FC take down Loyola FC, 3-0, last Monday 31 July 2023.
Brothers Jed and Jan Delariarte scored all three goals with Jed scoring in the 28th and 90th minutes while Jan scored in the 22nd minute.
