Goalkeeper Patrick Deyto had a scintillating performance as Stallion Laguna FC denied Dynamic Herb Cebu FC’s title hopes after thrilling scoreless draw last Wednesday 24 May 2023 at the Dynamic Herb Sports Complex in Talisay, Cebu.
The result allowed Kaya FC-Iloilo to clinch the league title with a game to spare as Cebu reached a total of 51 points just a point shy of leaders Kaya.
Missing midfielder Mert Altinoz due to card accumulation, Cebu tried to will its way to force a title decider going into Saturday, but a bevy of chances from the home side were denied by the heroics of Deyto.
Substute Papu Corsame almost won it for Cebu in the 83rd minute after a firing it past Deyto, but he was adjudged to be in an offside position when Mohamed Souhmah flicked it to the path of the forward. Cebu head coach Mehmet Kakil was livid and rushed straight at referee Meliton Pelayo, who then issued a red card to the Turkish tactician.
The match also saw three red cards in Stallion’s Rafael Nogueda and Shirmar Felongco, as well as Cebu’s Daniel Gadia during the heated second half.
Saturday’s match sees Kaya FC-Iloilo lift the league title after their 4:00 PM tiff against Stallion at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
