It was goals galore as Kaya FC Iloilo trampled a surprisingly tough Mendiola FC 1991, 6-1. Kaya managed to overcome an early snag and remain perfect with nine points from three matches in the second triple header tie at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Kaya started intensely by peppering Mendiola’s goal with Henri Bandeken successfully snuffing all the threats. Both sides were still sorting out things after an early 20th substitution that brought in Joshua Louie Polinag for Kenneth Payosalan and Mendiola took advantage as captain Jim Ashley Flores broke away and fed the running Aron Altiche for the opening goal at the 22nd minute.

The celebration was brief as Kaya’s efforts finally paid off with captain Jovin Bedic and Eric Giganto finding the back of the net in the 40th and 45th minute to peg the halftime score at 2-1. Four more goals arrived in the second half courtesy of Jarvey Gayoso (56th), a second from eventual Man of the Match Bedic (75th), Daizo Horikoshi (89th) and Jhan Melliza (93rd) just before the referee’s final whistle.

The six goals are the most scored by one team so far while the seven goals is the most combined. Horikoshi also moved into a tie with Kenshiro Daniels of United City FC in the early race for the Golden Boot award with three goals each.
