The returning Loyola FC banked on a strong second half fight back to draw Far Eastern University, 2-2, in the Copa Paulino Alcantara 2023 last Saturday 22 July 2023 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
FEU took a 2-0 lead in the first half from an Ezekiel Ae own goal in the 28th minute and a 45th minute strike from Martini Rey.
However, Loyola found their groove in the second half with a four minute blitz to draw level. Jose Montelibano started the ball rolling for Loyola with a shot in the 60th minute and was followed up by a Rupert Baña header three minutes later to turn around the tie.
FEU had a chance to win it late in the match, but were unable to convert forcing the draw.
The University of the Philippines followed it up with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Manila Digger FC.
Reynaldo Fornis drew first blood for UP in the fourth minute, followed by Cian Galsim’s 38th minute effort.
Manila Digger reduced the deficit in first half stoppage time from a Marco Cauyong penalty, but UP completed the rout with two more goals from Mike Tidor in the 83rd minute and Francis Tacardon in the 89th minute.
