Manila Digger continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win over Loyola FC in Saturday’s opening fixture at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
With the win, Digger now has 12 points from five matches, taking temporary third spot behind Stallion Laguna and Davao Aguilas by the end of the Saturday matches.
Coming off their first win of the season against Garelli, Loyola entered the game brimming with confidence against the Diggers, who escaped with a narrow victory over Mendiola in their previous match.
It took Digger just seven minutes to open the scoring as Earl Piñero recorded his third goal of the season with a close range volley after his initial shot bounced off the Loyola goalkeeper Isaac Annan.
Loyola’s woes continued as a lazy pass from Annan was intercepted by Salifu Jatta, who doubled Digger’s lead with a precise strike at the near post in the 40th minute.
Loyola’s hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Annan was unable to control an easy back pass resulting in an own goal in the 67th minute.
David Asare pulled one back for Loyola FC four minutes into stoppage time as a consolation goal.
