Modou Manneh’s goal in the 69th minute was enough for Manila Digger FC to pull off a 1-0 win over Cebu FC in the Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday.
A left-foot volley by Manneh left Cebu keeper Jun Badelic on the ground as it turned out to the be the only goal in the entire match.
Zamoranho Ho-A-Tham had a chance to equalize for Cebu but his attempted cross in the 94th minute was saved by Diggers keeper Yuya Kuriyama.
With the Gentle Giants absorbing their first loss in three games, this gives Stallion Laguna FC a golden opportunity to take an early lead in the standings on Sunday when it takes on the PFF Youth National Team at 4 p.m.
Diggers right back Ziggy Taningco believes this win could set the tone for their matches this season.
“I think it was just pure joy. It was a bit up and down. It was joy but we still have to keep a level head,” Taningco, who was the Man of the Match, said.
