The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) made a change in the groupings for the AFC Champions League East Zone.

2020 PFL champions United City FC was originally slated to face Guangzhou FC in Group I, but the Chinese club was reassigned to Group J replacing Shandong Luneng FC.

In light of the change, the AFC has designated Beijing FC to Group I alongside J League champions Kawasaki Frontale and the playoff winner between Daegu FC of Korea Republic and Chiangrai United of Thailand.

Beijing FC was originally scheduled to face the preliminary round winner between PFL runners up Kaya FC-Iloilo and Australian side Brisbane Roar.

The AFC Champions League group stages kicks off on 21 April 2021.
